  1. Michael Richards

This percolator has a DESIGN FLAW. I have been having great difficulty to get the percolator to work correctly.

The percolator works some times (and not very well when so) and then at other times not at all; but mostly not. The pressure (steam) that is required to build-up inside the upper portion of the boiler (lower pot) where the water goes, does not always build-up (like a pressure cooker), and because of this does not force the hot water through the basket tube to get that water into the basket and so percolate the coffee in the basket which then forces it through the spout in the upper pot into the collecting chamber.

The problem lies with the recessed ridge that the basket rest on. The recess is to low below the rim of the lower pot, and because of this the silicone gasket (in the upper pot) does not make an air-tight seal when screwed onto the boiler (lower pot); even when done tightly, it has to be exceedingly tight to work. Because of this poor seal, the steam in the lower pot leaks directly into the basket via the recess and thus indirectly bypassing the basket tube; therefore no water is forced into the basket via the basket tube, to percolate the coffee, and then force the brew through the spout into the collection chamber (upper pot).

To correct this design problem, the manufacturer has to either remove the recess completely (recommended) or decrease the recess inset of the ridge.

You also need to supply an instruction manual/leaflet explaining how to use the pot, and how to clean and maintain, including recommendations for longevity.

Unless rectified by the manufacturer, I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT.
